Halloween Is Almost Here!

I'm so excited that Halloween is so close! We still have lots to do, but with the help of friends and neighbors, we are making progress. Happy, happy, happy!

Iago

It's been a very long time since I posted here. It's been very busy and stressful lately. It's been a particularly tough week. I lost the lovebird that I've had for 15 years.

Iago was my sweetest bird. I know "parents" aren't supposed to have favorites, but Iago was the favorite of the three. I'd had him the longest, and he was the most tame. He would step up without hesitation, and would let me love on him when I wanted to. He loved to swing in his box swing, and he loved millet.

He was best buddies with Phoenix, another love bird. Iago was a peach faced. He was mainly green, with a peach head, and beautiful blue under his wings and tail. He was named after the bird in the movie Aladin.

I knew he was old, and he had not been as perky the last few months. I knew that he did not have a lot of years left, but I was not ready to lose him. He brought me so much joy, and it's hard to lose him now when so many other things in life are going wrong.

I remember going to Irving to meet with the breeder. There were almost a dozen peach faced to choose from, but he seemed to be the happiest and friendliest. I made the right decision when I chose him.

Many marriages don't even last 15 years. It's the same amount of time as raising a child through their freshman year in high school. It was a long and wonderful friendship. Fifteen years is a long time for a lovebird to live, but it was too short a time for me. I miss him very much.

Dis N Dat

Gee, where to start. It's been more than a month since I posted. Let's see, first of all, I'm glad it's officially spring. I hate winter. We had snow again last week. Fortunately, it was just a light, fluffy dusting, and it didn't cause many road problems here.

I am still making my way through teaching two writing classes. I'm learning a lot about how to use computers in the classroom. I hope to become more knowledgeable in the future. Baby steps are at least steps toward a goal.

I hate the political climate our country is in now. Legislation has been voted into law that is not approved of by the majority of the citizens. Yes, insurance companies do deserve some of the blame, but we now have a socialist state, which I never thought I would see in my life. "This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper."

I splurged and bought a nice belly dance outfit. It's a lovely shade of lavender, and it suits my personality to a T. I do need to make some adjustments to it, but I think I will enjoy it. I did get a lot done during spring break - mainly mending and working on sewing projects.

Well, that's a quick summary of what I've been up to. I haven't had a chance to think through a lot of things, but I'm working on it.

Phaedra Reborn

The good news is I did my solo in dance class today. I was pleased that I got a lot of compliments. I just wish Isis had been there. I surprised myself by doing a half-way decent back bend. Not bad for a 54-year-old. It felt nice to perform again, without having to worry about remembering somebody else's choreography. It was good to just be myself.

I hate winter!! As it looks now, I will be on campus when stupid snow/sleet starts falling. Dirty word!

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

Madea (Tyler Perry) made a great movie. It's pretty predictable if you've seen the previews, but I really liked it. Great songs and great message:

Sometimes people find themselves in bad situations, and it's hard to break free.

Today was my first day to teach class, but because of paperwork, I can't really start until (hopefully) Thursday. Wish me luck!
